Opera is a fast and secure web browser that comes with built-in features like ad blockers, free VPNs, and more. But did you know that you can also add third-party VPNs to Opera? This means that you can have even more control over your browsing experience and stay protected while online.
Third-party VPNs are not created by Opera Software and are not subject to the same rigorous security testing as our built-in VPN. However, they can still be useful in situations where you need an extra layer of protection or want to access content that’s blocked in your country.
Here’s how to add a third-party VPN to your Opera browser:
1. Download and install the VPN software on your computer or mobile device. Make sure that the VPN is compatible with Opera; some only work with specific browsers or devices.
2. Open the settings for your VPN software and find the section on server location options. Choose a server location that’s close to your physical location for optimal speeds. Also, make sure that the server supports the OpenVPN protocol; this is typically indicated by an icon next to the server name or address.
3. Enter your username and password for the VPN service into the appropriate fields in the software’s settings window then click “Connect.” If prompted, allow any permissions requested by the software at this time. The exact steps will vary depending on which software you’re using but should be similar across all major brands. And that’s it! Once connected, you’ll be able use Opera as usual but with all traffic routed through the secure tunnel provided by your VPN service of choice
1. Download Opera for your computer or device.
2. Open the browser and click on the menu in the top-left corner. Select “Settings.”
3. Near the bottom of the Settings page, find and click “Advanced.”
4. Under “Privacy & security,” find and turn on “Free VPN.” A badge will appear in your browser window alerting you that the VPN is now working. You can also customize your setting by clicking “Choose location” under Free VPN and selecting from any of our available server locations.
5. To turn off Opera VPN, simply go back into Settings and toggle off the feature under Privacy & security > Free VPN.
1. Open the Opera browser and click on the menu icon in the top left-hand corner.
2. Select “Settings” from the drop-down menu.
3. Scroll down to find the “Privacy & security” section, and click on “VPN”.
4. Toggle the “Enable VPN” option to ON.
5. You will now see a list of servers that you can connect to with Opera VPN; simply choose one and click “Connect”. Once connected, your location will be changed according to the server that you chose.

Assuming you’re in New York City, connecting to a server in another country would change your location accordingly. By default, all data that passes through Opera VPN is protected with 256-bit encryption; however, if you want even more security, you can enable this feature by clicking on “Advanced settings” and choosing from one of three possible encryption options: Des (Weak), 3DES (Medium), or AES (Strong).
