To get started, you need to first download the FortiClient installation package from the Fortinet website. The installation file is available in both .deb and .rpm formats. If you are using Ubuntu Desktop, you can install the .deb file directly by double clicking on it.
If you want to install FortiClient using the command line interface, open a new terminal window and change directory to where the installation file is saved. Then type in the following command:
$ sudo dpkg -i forticlient-sslvpn_4.2.3-1_amd64 (for 64 bit systems) or $ sudo dpkg -i forticlient-sslvpn_4.2 2 3 – 1 _ i6 4 (for 32 bit systems).
Press Enter to continue with the installation process when prompted. To complete the installation process enter your password when prompted by sudo password prompt message as this will authorize installing packages from unknown software channels.. When all required dependencies have been installed successfully, type y then press Enter at configuration prompt to start configuring VPN connection settings
First, make sure that you have the latest version of the software downloaded from the FortiClient website. Once you have that saved to your computer, double-click on the file to begin installation.
When prompted, choose whether or not you want to create a desktop shortcut for FortiClient VPN. After that, simply click “Install” and wait for the process to complete.
Once installation is finished, launchFortiClient VPN by double-clicking on the shortcut (if you created one) or finding it in your Start menu.
From here, enter in your username and password (provided by your VPN provider), then click “Connect.” That’s it – you should now be connected to your VPN!

Next, we’ll need to update the apt-get package list. This can be done by running the following command:
sudo apt-get update
Once the package list has been updated, we can install the VPN app by running the following command:
sudo apt-get install protonvpn-cli

On the Welcome message that appears, tap “OK.” You’ll then be taken to the FortiClient VPN permissions screen. Here, tap “OK” again to continue. You may be asked to allow certain permissions – go ahead and tap “Allow.”
